Our fabulous artist Douglas Stewart has been working in his studio to create two striking, major oils: Mike Tyson in the ring and the beautiful Brigitte Bardot.

Both are powerful works and absolutely unique in their vision, creation and process. Douglas actually makes all of the oil paints used in his pointillist technique from the finest ingredients sourced around the world.

Brilliant works.

Recently I was in Vietnam to seek out new talent and view galleries and museums. As of yet, I haven't found any artists who would fit within our criteria, but we continue to look.

However, in Thailand, I was elated to see Pairoj Karndee's first work of his new series on the reality of the life of bargirls in the nightclubs. Pairoj was at pains to tell the truth about these girls, their feelings and emotions expressed in their faces, whilst the facade shown to the outside world is very different.

"Dreams of home" is the first artwork I have seen that both confronts and captures a side of life that many tourists are not familiar with either in Bangkok or other cities around the globe. The work is significant for this reason alone. Social realism in a dark, forbidden, Bangkok setting... yet quietly touching and beautiful.

Pairoj Karndee has also completed perhaps the last artwork in his Mermaid series: a more voluptuous mermaid than we expect from Pairoj, with a soft, kind and beautiful face, appears to bid us "good-bye". It is executed in a much softer palette and is an overall lighter image than many of his works, negating any possible melancholy from the subject and giving it a feeling of optimism... as though waiting hopefully for the viewer's return.

Pairoj's works will be featured in the next issue of Exotiq Thailand, a high end magazine available only at 5-star hotels. The cover brings a close-up of Longing, which is available, but should sell quickly when the magazine is distributed.
